The Town of Huntington, MA is seeking a qualified individual to serve as Assistant Director for the Huntington Public Library. Duties will include:
- Assisting patrons (checking materials in and out; helping with patrons’ requests for material; helping to register patrons for new library accounts, sign up for programs, etc.)
- Shelving materials, shelf-reading
- Helping with publicity of programs, meetings, announcements
- Assisting with programs, decorating for programs
- Setting up special displays (historical, holiday, etc.)
- Assists Director with overdue materials process
- Assists with Inter-Library loan requests via ComCat and MassCat
- Other reasonable job-related duties as requested by the Director
Minimum Qualifications include education/experience directly relating to library work (BA/BS degree and 1-3 years comprehensive library work experience preferred); excellent communication skills; experience with computer software/internet, social media (Facebook/Instagram/twitter); ability to provide quality customer service and an appreciation of the purposes and functions of the public library; adaptability and ability to work well with public and other staff members; ability to bend, sit, stand for prolonged periods of time, lift and carry up to 40 pounds; ambition and willingness to attend workshops on own time and work towards sub-professional library certification.
The position is 16 hours per week to start with a maximum of 19 hours based on level of experience. Mondays 2:00-6:00 PM, Tuesdays 2:00-6:00 PM, Wednesdays 2:00-6:00 PM, and Thursdays 2:00-6:00 PM with the addition of Saturdays 10:00-1:00 PM upon full reopening of library. Occasional coverage for staff shortages is also expected. Compensation begins at $16.32/hour.
