Description:
Provides research assistance and information literacy instruction to library users and staffing support of other public service areas of the library as needed. Work Schedule: Flexible, including evenings, 20 hours per week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide research services at the library’s information desk and assist users in face-to-face, online, and hybrid learning environments.
- Develop creative teaching plans, materials, and assignments based on best practices, including active learning or problem-based learning activities, for teaching information literacy and research skills.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging trends, best practices, and pedagogical principles in instructional design and information literacy, including but not limited to the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
- Provide research instruction in assigned discipline areas as well as first year experience courses.
- Update and add to the library’s knowledgebase, LibAnswers.
- Create LibGuides, tutorials, and instructional videos.
- Coverage of circulation functions as needed.
- Support library users with questions about library equipment such as copiers, microfilm readers, printers, scanners as well as MS Office suite and other software packages.
- Participate in department and library staff meetings.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- According to candidate experience and interest, may also assist in planning and mounting displays, materials selection, and other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited MLS degree required.
- Previous knowledge of and experience in reference and instruction.
- Knowledge of online and print information resources.
- Experience and/or strong interest in instruction and pedagogy.
- Detail-oriented, excellent organizational and communication skills, and comfort learning and using emerging technologies.
- Team-oriented, prompt, accountable and reliable.
- Demonstrated strong “people skills,” including a positive, friendly, approachable and service-oriented demeanor.
- Effective working with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and community members.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative, with a focus on high-touch customer service.
