Coordinator of Learning Commons (Program Specialist III), Concord’s Community College, Concord, NH

Description:

Coordinates and plans a collaborative resource hub for academic inquiry, instruction, and learning. Performs administrative, supervisory and instructional duties to ensure learning resource needs of NHTI students and faculty are met. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Student Success and Enrollment Management.

This is a full-time position, Monday – Friday, 37.5 hours a week. Salary is $51,668.76 – $60,703.76 Per Year, dependent on experience.

Accountabilities:

  • Under the direction of the AVP of Student Success and Enrollment Management, designs an implementation plan to create a dynamic and innovative Learning Commons learning space environment based upon current research and best practices, assuring that services are provided in multiple formats.  
  • Integrates current and emerging technologies into library services promoting innovation in instruction, group work and distance learning.
  • Directs all aspects of the library operations including supervising, scheduling, training and evaluating employees; overseeing library services, and coordinating programming.
  • Maintains awareness of the curricular needs of the college and provides guidance for faculty and staff in the development and maintenance of all learning resources. 
  • Collaborates with appropriate departments on campus to coordinate the delivery of a variety of workshops and trainings designed to improve student success skills that impact overall student retention. 
  • Assist faculty in the development and building of Open Educational Resources and encourages the use of open educational content within the college’s academic community. 
  • Oversees and provides library service and academic research instruction that supports student success in both the library and online environments through forward looking collection development.
  • Through community outreach, collaborates with external business partners to design engaging inquiry learning experiences promoting interdisciplinary real world, projects and learning experiences with a focus on career awareness programming.
  • Maintains awareness of the curricular needs of the college and provides necessary leadership for faculty and staff in the development and maintenance of all learning resources. Assures flexible and equitable access to physical and virtual collections of resources that support and meet the diverse and developmental learning needs of special population learners.
  • Maintains and enhances the learning commons website to reach students and convey appropriate information effectively.
  • Responsible for data collection, monitoring and evaluating progress, and recommending and implementing institutional practices to improve learning commons effectiveness on an on-going basis. 
  • Oversees budget to ensure consistency with the strategic plan and assessment outcomes.
  • Seeks additional funding sources for library services and resources through grants, donations, and other sources.
  • Works collaboratively across the CCSNH system. 
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minumum Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in library science or a related field.
  • Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience:

  • Four years’ experience in library services with experience in modern library organization.
  • Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major study in Library Science, from an ALA accredited institution, includingcoursework in Educational Media and Technology.
  • Experience and/or education in working with diverse student populations is preferred.

Recommended Work Traits:

Knowledge of modern library/learning commons organization, procedure, policy, aims and services. Knowledge of up-to-date applications of information technology. Skill in developing and monitoring library automation and library information systems. Ability to coordinate workflow within the learning commons, and to trainand supervise library staff. Strong creative, technical and problem-solving skills. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.
