The Philbrick-James Library in bucolic Deerfield, New Hampshire, is seeking an enthusiastic individual to serve our community as Children’s Librarian. This is a full-time (40 hours weekly), benefitted position, with a yearly compensation of $35,000. Position is open until filled. Some evening and weekend hours required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans and presents creative and engaging programs for youth aged birth to teen; with focus on diversity, equity, and inclusivity.
- Readers’ advisory, reference, and other professional library services to youth and their caregivers.
- Supports literacy learning for youth and their families.
- Evaluates and develops youth collections and programming resources.
- Maintains current knowledge of children’s and young adult literature, popular culture, programming developments and related library services and resources.
- Works with a small library team.
- Seeks input from children/teens, parents and others who work with youth to ensure the Library’s offerings meet the needs of our community.
- Participates in collaborative efforts with other town departments and area organizations.
- Staffs circulation desk as needed.
- Regularly required to drive a car, and to move, bend, reach and lift boxes of books.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements:
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task are essential.
- Strong customer service skills imperative.
Education Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program preferred. A suitable combination of education and experience will also be considered.
