The Northeastern Law Library Internship is a great opportunity to learn about law or academic librarianship. Our interns will engage in different law library functions, from reference to circulation to cite-checking.
We are looking to hire two interns for 20 hours per week each, at $18 per hour. Hours are scheduled between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday-Friday, with preference for half and whole days. Depending on the schedule, interns can also sometimes work from home.
All interns will comply with Northeastern Covid-19 guidelines and requirements. Positions are not benefits-eligible.
Qualifications:
- Current enrollment in an ALA-accredited graduate level library program (including starting this Fall).
- Previous library or law library reference experience is preferred, but not necessary; we are happy to train the right candidates.
Responsibilities:
- Providing reference and circulation staffing at the InfoDesk or online.
- Intern will “float” among multiple library roles, assisting with various tasks.
- Providing professional reference service to the library’s varied users – including faculty, staff, students, alumni and the researching public.
- Supporting librarians with faculty research needs.
- Preparing and updating print and electronic research guides and other library publications.
- Supporting librarians in locating, retrieving and photocopying material needed for teaching, and doing trial runs of legal research exercises.
- Assisting with collection maintenance tasks as needed
- Cite-checking as required (training provided).
- Other duties as assigned by staff.
Other Information:
Applicants should be detail oriented, well organized, able to work independently and comfortable as part of a team. Strong communication skills and flexibility are essential.
The internship has a flexible start date, but will start after Labor Day, September 7th, 2020. The internship will continue for six months, with the possibility of an extension.
