Library Scientist/Research Associate, Sutter Hill Ventures, Palo Alto, CA

We are looking for a specific set of applicants to leverage their expertise in managing, maintaining, and architecting systems of classification and information. This is a unique opportunity to build a career as a research associate, supporting analysts and managing directors and laying the foundation for a considerable portion of Sutter Hill’s future success. 

At Sutter Hill, the library scientist is a highly-motivated and ambitious individual who plays a vital part in designing, maintaining, and optimizing a proprietary information system. The library scientist will work as a part of the Sutter Hill Research team to: 

  • Conduct research on the topics of interest. 

  • Curate the findings, according to the in-house classification rules, and upload the new data to the information system. 

  • Establish curation goals, strategies, and maintenance schedules for the section(s) of the information system. 

  • Refine the classification system, on as needed basis. 

  • Contribute to best-practices documentation for using and maintaining the system. 

  • Execute fast-paced, very high-volume work requirements in an organized and efficient manner. 

 

Requirements 

  • M.A. in Library and/or Information Science, Information Management. 

  • Min GPA – 3.75 

  • Quick hands at the keyboard, a good eye for patterns, zeal for rare and interesting objects. 

  • Exceptional organizational skills, a strong bias towards accuracy, high throughput, and team- oriented production. 

Desired Skills & Experience: 

  • Completion of formal courses on classification, information retrieval, online searching. 

  • Experience in developing or maintaining classification systems. 

 

Position Type: Full Time 

Degree Level: Master’s 

Total Compensation: $60,000-$100,000, including annual base salary, performance bonuses, contributions to the retirement fund, and generous benefits (health, vision, dental, gym, catered lunches, etc.) 

The position is open to U.S. citizens and permanent U.S. residents.
