Research Specialist, StraCon Services Group, LLC, Dahlgren, VA

StraCon Services Group, LLC is seeking a full time Research Specialist. The Research Specialist will work directly on an exciting new opportunity with a Department of Defense (DoD) agency located in Dahlgren, VA. This position requires experience in research support, library science, historic preservation, or technical information with an emphasis on web page research cataloging. Must be motivated to excel in the corporate office environment working as part of a creative and technical team of media and communication professionals. Candidates should also have an active SECRET security clearance and previous experience conducting research support for the federal government.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide ongoing maintenance activities of a technical library collection, including collection and document development, cataloging, processing, circulation, deletion, and disposal
  • Research technical reference requests via online/internet researching methods, as well as hardcopy/primary source research methods
  • Provide web page research cataloging support, create and manage web page links; perform maintenance and update web pages and develop responses to inquiries and data calls concerning the web pages
  • Provide reference support and maintain print collections, online collections and subscriptions which include accounts for the Federal Library and Information Network and the Library of Congress (FEDLINK)
  • Scan documents, catalog images, and write/index metadata
  • Provide library technical support to Technical Departments including Innovation Labs
  • Assist in modification and customization of the integrated library system software (EOS), inventory, repository, or equivalent tool for the end-user
  • Deliver root cause analysis of hardware and software malfunctions and recommend solutions
  • Develop and maintain an archival process in accordance with the National Archives and Records Administration for storing and retrieving physical and digital artifacts through Past Perfect Museum Software, to include photographs, newspapers, documents, and videos
  • Research, examine, and retrieve artifacts from the National Archives and other repositories
  • Interface with the community to acquire artifacts, communicate organizational history, document history through research and oral interviews, curate and display heritage exhibits, and distribute contents to appropriate repositories
  • Assist with the development of briefs to convey information, interpret data, and request decisions; assist with coordinating, scheduling, and executing meetings

  • Local travel required

Experience Requirements

  • Proven ability to support communication programs and products, media relations programs, community relations, special events, and photography support
  • Experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, and editing
  • Proficient in writing, formatting, editing, and maintaining a range of print and digital media

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Historic Preservation or Humanities OR four (4+) years of experience in research support, library science, historic preservation, or technical information with an emphasis on web page research cataloging

Security Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Current or Active Secret Clearance or Interim Secret Clearance
