Job Summary

The librarian at the Newport Campus is responsible for the development, management, and oversight of the campus library including all reference, instruction, collection development, and circulation functions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Commitment to CCRI’s Mission:
- Demonstrate a commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
- Work collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive and student-centered environment, with students of various learning styles, cultures, identities, and life-experiences.
Reference and Customer Service:
- Assist patrons in person, online, and via telephone reference services
- Instruct library patrons in the use of the library catalog, periodical and other electronic databases, the Internet and other library resources
- Provide individual research assistance on an appointment basis
Direct Service to Faculty and Students:
- Assist faculty in creating pertinent and meaningful library assignments for students
- Serve as liaison to academic areas, solicits faculty recommendations for additions to the collection and works with the Coordinators of Collection Development to enhance the collection
- Coordinate campus library instruction program, includes the management of instruction session schedule, organization of materials, preparation of handouts/guides
- Develop and conduct library instruction sessions
Technical Knowledge/Expertise:
- Prepare and update library handouts/guides and assist with the on-going design of the library web site
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of the collection, electronic resources, and other research sources
- Select materials to support the college curriculum, enhance teaching and learning, and encourage independent and lifelong learning
- Provide statistical and other reports for areas of responsibility
- Supervise library stack maintenance and collection inventory projects
- Oversight and maintenance of the automated circulation system
- Evaluate the collection, filling gaps and removing/replacing outdated materials
- Maintenance of the serials collection
- Oversight of the reserves collection
Departmental Support:
- Participate in short- and long-range planning for the Department, including new and expanded services, collections, equipment and facilities, operational/budget planning
- Participate in College/consortium governance
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Participate in departmental, institutional, and consortium committees
- Oversight of intra-network lending
Management:
- Hire, train, schedule and supervise library staff and adjunct librarians
- Manage and implement policies and procedures for library functions at the Newport Campus
- Supervise access services staff and student workers
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Library Science or Library and Information Science, or equivalent, required.
- Professional library reference experience, and management or supervisory experience, required.
- Reference and instruction experience, required.
- Experience with electronic resources, required.
- Experience with a standard library system, required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications, required.
