Library Director, Manassas Park Public Library, Manassas Park, VA

Library Systems & Services (LS&S) is seeking a Library Director for the Manassas Park Public Library in Manassas Park, Virginia. This is a great opportunity for a sharp professional librarian to oversee the day-to day-operations of a new library scheduled to open Summer 2020. The City of Manassas Park has previously been served by a county library system; the City is now establishing a new library to serve the residents of Manassas Park. The Library Director will lead small library staff team committed to creating a thriving library with excellent patron service. The Manassas Park Public library will be in the Bloom’s Park area and the City plans to build a new facility in coming years. Primary responsibilities include ensuring efficient and effective operations are implemented and executed and ensuring contract requirements are met. The Library Director, reporting to the Chief Library Officer, supports the LS&S vision, values and fundamentals through exceptional leadership and dedicated patron focus.

 • Set priorities, develop a work schedule, monitor progress towards goals, and track details, data, information and activities  

 • Determine strategies to move the organization forward, set goals, create and implement actions plans, and evaluate the process and results  

 • Assess problem situations to identify causes, gather and process relevant information, generate possible solutions, and make recommendations and/or resolve the problem  

 • Assesses options and actions based on trends and conditions in the environment, and the vision and values of the organization  

 • Oversee scheduling, training, and professional development; create and sustain excellent internal and external relationships with community groups and organizations partnering with the library  

 • Work closely with leadership to implement and promote the library strategic plan

 

Qualifications:

• ALA accredited MLIS or MLS degree required  

• Three years supervisory experience is preferred  

• Three years of progressively responsible library managerial experience and/or administrative functions of a library, or equivalent knowledge is preferred  

• Experience in a role that requires frequent interaction with customers, fulfilling the requests of customers and responsibility for addressing customer issues, questions and suggestions is preferred  

• Experience analyzing and applying financial reports and library related data (usage, demographics, trends, etc.) is preferred
