Librarian I/Cataloger, The Public Library of Brookline, Brookline, MA

The Town of Brookline Library is seeking a Librarian/Cataloger to handle serials record maintenance and cataloging for reference department staff and library branches. Under the general direction of the Collection Development Supervisor the Librarian I Cataloger will perform administrative, direct service, and professional work in classifying, cataloging, and processing print and non-print material for the Library.

  • Provide information and assistance to library patrons as necessary.

  • May be assigned to public service desks as needed.

  • Facilitate interlibrary loan operations using multiple automated systems.

  • Catalog library materials; verify that item records will be attached to the correct bibliographic records.

  • Perform similar or related work as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s of Library and Information Science degree, supplemented by additional training in library technology, one year of experience in library operations is required, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this job. 

  • Familiarity with Dewey classification, OCLC MARC records.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with the all members of the public in a courteous and tactful manner. 

  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with coworkers and other libraries. 

  • Ability to work with a high level of detail. 

  • Extensive knowledge of current library technology, and adaptability to its frequent change. 

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deal effectively with interruptions. 

 

Starting Salary: $27.76 per hour plus generous benefits.
