The University of Mount Union (UMU) seeks a dynamic and engaged professional to lead the Main Library and Sturgeon Music Library as the next director of libraries. This new leader will collaborate with campus constituents on initiatives that increase access to meaningful learning resources and support student success. Duties encompass administration of staffing, planning, budgeting, and policy for Main Library and Music Library. The director oversees a professional staff of three librarians and four FTE support staff. The director of libraries reports to the provost and vice president for academic affairs.
The Main Library is situated at the heart of the Kolenbrander-Harter Information Center (KHIC). In addition to housing the physical library, KHIC is also home to the Digital, Written, and Oral Communication Studio, the Mathematics Learning Center, the IT Helpdesk, a computer science lab, several multimedia classrooms, and the KHIC Stand Café and Learning Commons, which offers technology, gathering, and study space for individuals and groups. The Sturgeon Music Library is located in Cope Music Hall, part of the Giese Center for the Performing Arts. With library locations central to the academic life of students, considerable online resources, and a significant web presence, the director of libraries is uniquely positioned to cultivate collaboration that supports faculty teaching and impacts student success.
Responsibilities

Hiring, training, supervision, and evaluation of all library staff.

Budgeting and reporting on the financial operations of the libraries.

Strategic planning and ongoing evaluation of all library operations in line with the strategic goals of the university.

Develops policies and regulations to facilitate library operations.

Coordinates university wide collection development, selection, acquisition, and deselection processes to provide the resources needed to fully support an extensive curriculum.

Represents the University of Mount Union at institutional, consortia, and professional events. UMU currently participates in the OPAL and OhioLINK consortia.
Qualifications

At least five years of progressive professional library experience with a record of progressive responsibilities including library management.

Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
A second master’s degree or applicable post-graduate education or experience is desirable. -
Demonstrated success in the development and maintenance of partnerships supporting student success.

Demonstrated knowledge of traditional and emerging roles and impacts of library services to support student success and faculty teaching.

Demonstrated ability to provide leadership, facilitate change, and manage personnel.

Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
