Library Director, Moultonborough Public Library, Moultonborough, NH

The Moultonborough Library Board of Trustees seeks an enthusiastic, innovative, and resourceful librarian to serve as the new Library Director. Strongly supported by the town of Moultonborough, the Moultonborough Public Library provides a center for learning, creativity and enrichment in our Lakes Region community. We are an active library providing print, media, electronic resources, community meeting spaces, adult and children’s programming and excellent customer service.

 

Job Summary:  The Library Director is a professional position under the direct supervision of the Board of Trustees. The Director performs all managerial duties related to planning, organizing, staffing, budgeting, reporting, building operations and all library services.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master of Library Science (MLS or MLIS) from an approved ALA accredited institution.

  • At least three years of supervisory experience preferably in a public library setting.

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal and managerial skills to work effectively with Library Trustees, Library staff, Friends of the Library, town officials, Library patrons, and community organizations.

  • Adept at problem solving and promoting effective staff performance.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to promote a vision for the library, and how to achieve it.

  • Skill and experience in developing and proposing operating budgets and resourceful use of allocated funds under the guidance of the Board of Trustees.

  • Excellent working knowledge of computer hardware, software, library automation systems, policies and procedures.

  • Understands current and emerging trends in library management and technology.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees daily library administration in accordance with library policies and procedures.

  • Develops and maintains harmonious and effective working relationships with Trustees, Friends/volunteers, Library patrons, community representatives and organizations, and town officials.

  • Responsible for developing and managing an optimal staff, under the guidance of the Trustees, including:

    • employee hiring, training/development, staff assignments, monthly team meetings, performance feedback, salary recommendations, and maintaining personnel records

  • Responsible for scheduling all adult programming.

  • Attends Board of Trustee meetings and provides monthly reports.

  • Responsible for selecting, purchasing, and maintaining all materials for collection development.

  • Selects, purchases, and maintains all library technology equipment.

  • Proactively identifies opportunities for enhancing Library services.

  • Works with the Board of Trustees Treasurer regarding monies received and expended.

  • Attends regional conferences (NHLA), workshops, and meetings for professional development.

 

This is a full time position (40 hours) which may sometimes include attendance at evening programs or meetings. The library offers a competitive salary range commensurate with experience ($65,000 – 85,000) as well as health benefits and a pension plan. The successful candidate must complete a pre-employment drug test and background check.
