Information Service Specialist, Innosight, Lexington, MA

Innosight is seeking a part-time (20 hours/week) business researcher to provide global industry, economic, and demographic research and data to support client projects and business development initiatives. The Information Service Specialist will be part of the Research Team which responds to consultants’ requests for information on business and industry issues. Research activities range from downloading articles behind paywalls to open-ended investigations of changing markets, as well as educating consultants to find, evaluate, and cite credible research. We anticipate this will be a job-share and are seeking flexibility to be in the Lexington office headquarters regularly as well as work remotely to cover requests every afternoon Monday-Friday. Your work schedule will be discussed and confirmed once you join and may be subject to modification based on business needs.

 

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be a critical and creative thinker with the proven ability to assess the accuracy and relevance of information and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

  • Respond to each consultant request in a timely manner. Work with consultants to understand, disaggregate, and prioritize their research and information needs. Determine the most appropriate solution, effectively balancing quality, availability, timeliness, and cost factors.

  • Collaborate with consultants to deliver a clear, efficient, research strategy for broad research inquiries. This may include: independently research and evaluate information sources, negotiate a division of labor with consultants to share research tasks, advise consultants on research strategies, collaborate with vendors, and/or repackage downloaded data/information into streamlined deliverables for consultants. 

  • Retrieve reports and data from specialized databases.

  • Partner, as needed, with the Research Team and consulting staff to identify new information sources and technologies and rigorously evaluate quality and potential value to the firm.

  • Create awareness among the consulting staff of research sources and services: Provide guidance, training, and/or documentation to consultants on how to use sources.

  • Maintain intranet pages describing and linking to online research sources.

 

Skills & Experience

We seek candidates who are passionate about, and have experience in, business research. Specifically, we are looking for candidates that meet the following criteria:

  • Demonstrated competency and creativity conducting business research across industries and geographies in a dynamic environment where you address diverse topics including company and industry facts in business, social- and public-sector topics.

  • Demonstrated use of a broad spectrum of business information sources and tools including ability to learn new sources/tools quickly and effectively (e.g., Thomson/Refinitiv Eikon, S&P Capital IQ, PitchBook, IBISWorld, EBSCO, LexisNexis, Truven Health Analytics)

  • Familiarity with best practices in compliance with copyright and licensing

  • Intellectual curiosity along with problem-solving, analytical, and quantitative skills

  • Strong service orientation, self-motivation, and demonstrated ability to solve problems, improve processes, and drive projects forward

  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels with a professional attitude. Demonstrated ability to create and build relationships with senior/client-facing colleagues. 

  • Strong verbal and written communication

  • Masters degree in information science, business, finance, or health care is a plus

  • Experience in a corporate or professional services environment 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including intermediate or advanced Excel skills
