Makerspace Librarian, Dedham Public Library, Dedham, MA

The Dedham Public Library is looking for a qualified Makerspace Librarian to join its team. Under the general supervision of the Library Director and User Experience & Access Manager, this position manages, develops and delivers innovative maker programming in a creative environment. Must be available to work some nights and Saturdays, in order to implement programming.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements new and emerging technology, services, and projects for the makerspace.

  • Operates and maintains makerspace hardware (3D printers, VR, and other equipment).

  • Develops a training plan for staff on relevant equipment; informs staff of updates or changes to equipment or procedure.

  • Provides technology instruction to patrons and staff, one-on-one and in a group setting.

  • Assists patrons with the use of makerspace equipment.

  • Assists in managing circulation policies and procedures of the Library of Things

  • Demonstrates technology outside of the library at community events

  • Staffs public service desk in the media center as needed

  • Participates in relevant committees.

  • Performs other similar or related duties as required, or as situation dictates.

 

Recommended Minimum Qualifications

  • MLS from an ALA accredited institution, STEAM education background preferred.

  • Grant writing experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with makerspaces; Artistic proficiency and a creative mindset; Awareness of new developments and trends in public libraries; Robust computer and technology skills; Working knowledge of coding, CAD, and Adobe suite preferred.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently; Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels; Ability to provide exceptional customer service.

  • High level of energy and self-motivation to create new services and programs; Skill in planning and presenting appropriate programs for teens and adults.

 

Type: Full Time

Salary/Pay Rate:

Annual $55,632.46-$68,342.04; Bi-Weekly $2,139.71-$2,628.54
