The Winthrop Group has an immediate opening for a full-time Digital Archivist who will work with a dynamic archives team at one of Winthrop’s corporate clients. The Digital Archivist will initially focus on (a) ingesting and tagging digitized assets into a Digital Asset Management system and (b) digitization of selected analog materials. Subsequent responsibilities will include working with the Corporate Archivist to develop and implement policies and workflows for transferring digital resources to the Archives. The Digital Archivist will eventually manage the archives digital repository and the acquisition, processing, and preservation of digital assets. This contract will run through 2020 with the possibility of extension through 2021.
Key Responsibilities

Ingest and tag a backlog of digitized content in accordance with established metadata standards and terminology.

Digitize selected analog collections (e.g. print, photographs and audiovisual materials)

Transfer digital materials from a variety of current and legacy media formats and ensure the authenticity, preservation, and access of these assets.

Perform legacy data cleanup by enhancing descriptions, harmonizing conflicts and inconsistencies, and optimizing search capabilities.

Collaborate with the Corporate Archivist to:

establish policies and procedures, workflows and prioritization of asset digitization
-
identify and collect key born digital assets created by the company, and transfer to the Archives
-
develop workflows for managing intellectual relationships between physical holdings and digitized surrogates
-
establish and implement processes for the acquisition, processing, and preservation of born-digital and digitized records.

Assist reference team by responding to reference requests from internal and external stakeholders, including scan on-demand and ensuring newly digitized files are uploaded into DAM.

Other responsibilities as required.
Required Qualifications
-
MLS/MLIS with a concentration in archives or MA in Archives and Public History.

Minimum of 2-3 years working in an archival setting.

Demonstrated knowledge of metadata schemas and preservation standards.

Foundational knowledge of digital archives, best practices and real-world applications, trends and emerging technologies, and willingness to learn.

Basic understanding of copyright and data protection issues.

Demonstrated ability to work creatively, collaboratively, and effectively with a team, sometimes across organizational boundaries, as well as independently.

Demonstrated ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks and projects on time and within budget and in accordance with task/project parameters.

Must be organized and have excellent attention to detail

Possess a “can do” attitude and good problem-solving skills

Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience working within a corporate archives or with business records
-
Experience digitizing analog audiovisual materials in various formats including U-matic, VHS, Beta, and reel-to-reel.

Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) or pursuing certification
-
Knowledge of and/or interest in history of information technology and computers
