We are currently looking for qualified candidates for a Research and Instruction Librarian position at Lesley University.

Start Date: 2/28/2020

End Date: 6/30/2020

 

Schedule: Sunday – Thursday 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

 

Pay Rate: $20.75 – $24.00 an hour based on experience

CORI: REQUIRED (Additional background check may be required)

 

Summary: 

Supervised by the Assistant Director for Research & Instruction, this librarian will be a full-time member of the Research & Instruction team. They will participate heavily in both in-person and virtual reference coverage for the library, as well as do research consultations. They will also do library instruction and basic orientations for large classes with another librarian.  Using LibGuides, they will create and refresh online library guides, as needed.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Participate in research and reference services from the reference desk during library hours, helping patrons to find print and electronic resources for their research. Help with APA and MLA citation formats.

  • Provide evening, weekend and holiday coverage on rotation with other librarians.

  • Serve reference shifts virtually from your office as assigned for remote patrons via e-mail, instant message, and telephone.

  • Conduct research consultations with students, faculty, and staff both in person and remotely using virtual meeting software as needed. 

  • Participate in library staff meetings, committees, cross-departmental collaborations, and projects

  • Flexibility to teach classes outside of business hours and cover library services as part of the R&I team.

  • Participate in staffing a single service point (access services & reference) desk for assigned shifts.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Performs basic, first-line reference services as they arise at Information Desk, referring to Research & Instruction Librarians as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Conduct bibliographic instruction, as well as teach library and research skills to students and faculty in classes and training sessions alongside another librarian or by oneself.

 

Technology Requirements:

  • Stay current with library technology, including databases and search engines, ordering services and Subject Guides, reference statistics software, Skype and instant messaging, e-mail and Microsoft Office, and Web 2.0 applications as appropriate.

  • Create and update library subject guides (i.e. ‘Libguides”) as assigned.

  • Use web technologies to deliver reference services to remote users via e-mail, Instant Messaging, Skype, Zoom!, and other technologies as they emerge.

  • Use laptop, demo stations, and classroom projection technology to teach classes at all Lesley campuses.

  • Help patrons to use printers, scanners, wireless network, desktop and accessibility software.

 

Special Requirements:

  • ALA accredited Master’s in Library Science

  • 2 years’ minimum experience working in an academic or public library.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and supervisory skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to multitask and work in a busy environment.
