Intern, Biogen Library and Information Center, Cambridge, MA

The Biogen Library and Information Center invites applications for a library intern. The library receives requests for research to support drug discovery at Biogen. The focus of the internship is to create a visual representation of library research topics over time. Using the library current and historic data, this project will look at the timing of research submitted to the library. The requests will be categorized and then compared to drug development timelines. The goal of this project is to identify when library requests are most impactful.

This is for a 12-week internship position from June – August 2020.

 

Project: Visual Representation of Library Research Topics Over Time

  • Categorize requests for research

  • Graph requests over time

  • Compare time frame with project timing

  • Work with library staff to create a visual representation of data

  • Present results to library staff

  • Possibility to assist in requests for research if interested

 

Key Learning Objectives 

  • Develop a general knowledge and understanding of pharmaceutical libraries

  • Hands-on experience in a digital library

  • Apply knowledge learned in graduate level coursework to the identify resources and present information

  • Identify, analyze and evaluate data for a project

  • Experience to include working on a team, time management, and presentations

  • Embrace networking opportunities and improve professional communication

 

Qualifications

To participate in the Biogen Intern or Co-op Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria: 

  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. 

  • Enrollment in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program, returning to the academic program following Biogen Intern or Co-op assignment 

  • Minimum grade point average of 3.2 preferred 

  • At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date 

  • Completed at least one year of undergraduate studies 

 

Additional qualifications for a successful intern include:

  • Great communication skills, verbal and written

  • Attention to detail a must

  • Comfortable working with Microsoft applications OR willing to learn new technologies

  • Interest in special libraries

  • Time management

 

Education

Student of Library and Information Sciences and/or Computer Science

Relocation is not offered for this position.
