Access Services Librarian, Lesley University, Cambridge, MA

BiblioTemps® is an employment service of the Massachusetts Library System that provides experienced library workers for short-term and permanent placements in public, academic and special libraries throughout Massachusetts.

We are currently looking for qualified candidates for an Access Services Librarian position at Lesley University.

 

Start Date: 2/24/2020

End Date: 6/30/2020

 

Schedule: Tuesday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

 

Pay Rate: $20.75 – $24.00 an hour based on experience

CORI: REQUIRED (Additional background check may be required)

Summary:

  • Works with Administration and the Evening Supervisor to supervise the Information Desk, including opening and closing the library on various assigned days.

  • Oversees daily circulation functions, including maintaining and troubleshooting library equipment, student worker supervision, circulation, collection maintenance, course reserves, interlibrary loan.

  • Supervises 8-10 work study students in daily activities.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Performs opening procedures Tuesday – Saturday and supervise all Saturday activities at Sherrill Library.

  • Provides circulation services to patrons including check out, check in, and renewal of library materials, collect fines, record payments and resolve patron problems and questions.

  • Processes all ILLIAD (Interlibrary Loan) borrowing and lending requests, monitor status, follow up with lending institutions, verify quality of received materials, and ensure timely delivery to patrons.

  • Supervises and trains student workers in Access Services activities.

  • Serves as backup to other staff as needed and requested by the supervisor.

  • Coordinates daily retrieval and distribution of videos and interoffice delivery to staff. Process reports and advance bookings.

  • Monitors and maintain accurate interoffice delivery of library materials to faculty and staff members.

  • Instruct and assist patrons in the use of library equipment: computers, online systems, copy machines, print management, databases, and library catalogs.

  • Attends all relevant staff meetings. 

  • Performs basic, first-line reference services as they arise at Information Desk, referring to Research & Instruction Librarians as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Technology Requirements:

  • Contributes to, organize, and maintain up-to-date student employee myLesley community.

  • Manages the daily operations of interlibrary loan services including borrowing, lending and document delivery using ILLIAD software.

  • Demonstrates technology skills including Microsoft Office and a familiarity with library and office equipment preferred.

  • Demonstrates experience with integrated library systems, Ex Libris Voyager preferred.

 

Special Requirements:

  • ALA accredited Masters in Library Science

  • 2 years’ minimum experience working in circulation services in an academic or public library

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and supervisory skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles and practices of interlibrary loan and document delivery.

  • Prior experience with ILLIAD and OCLC software preferred.

  • Demonstrates experience training and supervising student workers.

  • Ability to multitask and work in a busy environment.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs, push a full book cart and shift a shelf of books.
