Librarian 1 Research and Reader Services, Reading Public Library, Reading, MA

We are now hiring a full time Research and Reader Services Librarian.  The position requires a balance of public service, reference, instruction, outreach, adult programming, marketing, readers’ advisory and collection development. Essential Functions:

  • Provides direct assistance to library patrons. Services include reference, research and readers’ advisory.

  • Advises users in choosing library materials. Instructs users in the use of materials, resources, equipment and technology.

  • Organizes and publicizes a wide variety of programs, activities and community outreach. Uses data to inform service development, implementation, and continuous improvement.

  • Curates, selects, weeds and promotes assigned portions of the library collection.

  • Works collaboratively with schools, Town Departments, businesses and community groups as needed.

  • Participates in town, statewide and regional meetings and committees as needed.

  • Cooperates as a team member in performing any duty necessary to provide library services.

  • Seeks and applies for grants to expand and enhance library services and patron experience.

  • Proactively stays aware of changing information resources and critically evaluates them for accuracy.

  • Informs library users of and enforces library policies.

 

Position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) including one evening and Saturday rotation and includes benefits and ample professional development opportunities. 

 

Qualifications

  1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science. Candidates for a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science program will be considered; and

  2. One to two years of professional library experience; or

  3. Any equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year for year basis.

Salary: Expected Range: $53,918 – $57,233
