Lecturer in Applied Technology, University of Oklahoma, Tulsa, OK

The University of Oklahoma School of Library and Information Studies invites applications for a non-tenure track lecturer position for the Tulsa campus, beginning in August 2020. This position will predominately support the new Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Technology which begins on the Tulsa campus in Fall 2020. It will also include support of the long-standing Master of Library and Information Studies degree on the Tulsa campus.

 

Position Summary

The responsibilities of this position include teaching, advising, actively recruiting new students, committee membership, and other duties as assigned by the department chair and/or Tulsa dean’s office. The teaching load is 6 courses per year, one of which will typically be in the summer semester. It is a full-time 12-month appointment on a 3-year renewable contract. Salary is competitive and includes benefits.

Candidates’ areas of specialization should broadly include expertise in information science and technology, with the ability to teach courses such as: Introduction to Information Studies, Fundamentals of Information Technology, Database Design, Website Design, Introduction to Data Analytics, Undergraduate Capstone, other courses which match the candidate’s specialization areas, and may include creating new courses to support our technology and data science curriculum. This faculty member will also supervise internships and advise students.

An important part of this job will be going out into the community to recruit new students for the bachelor’s and master’s programs. This will include liaising with the Tulsa Community College, local organizations and industries, working with the OU Tulsa campus recruiting office, attending degree fairs and relevant events, and may include attending conferences to run recruiting booths, etc.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Information Science, Computer Science, Library and Information Science, or related field (Ph.D. must be completed prior to the August 2020 start date)

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience teaching in on-campus and online environments

  • Demonstrated experience in recruiting and/or advising in an academic setting

  • An MLIS or equivalent

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations
