Data Scientist Intern – Sports Analytics, Zelus Analytics, Austin, TX

We are seeking data scientist interns with a passion for sports to help us develop the quantitative models that power our world-leading sports intelligence platform. The projected start date of the paid internship would be the summer of 2020.

Job Functions:

  • Statistical modeling and quantitative analysis to support one or more research projects focused on player evaluation and in-game strategy

  • Developing, validating, and automating quantitative models using statistics, machine learning, optimization, and simulation

  • Preparing reports and presentations to share model specifications and validation results

  • Performing ad hoc data analysis to support our partner teams

  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements:

  • Pursuing degree in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science, operations research, or a related quantitative field (expected graduation by the end of 2021 preferred)

  • Some industry or research experience with applied mathematical and predictive modeling (statistics, machine learning, optimization, and/or simulation)

  • Familiarity with sports data, through academic research, independent projects, and/or prior internships

  • Experience with mathematical and statistical programming (Python and/or R)

  • Desire to work in a collaborative team environment

  • Enthusiasm for sports analytics with knowledge of public sports analytics research
