Why become an Archives Intern?

The Archives Intern will assist the Information Governance team in the development of a Grant Thornton Archives by conducting an inventory and analysis of records repositories that may contain archival records, and helping with the creation of a business case for the future development of the archives through research and analysis. As an Archives Intern you’ll have opportunities to discover and shed light on significant stores of records documenting Grant Thornton’s founding and development, as well as potential opportunities to leverage and share those records, including for the firm’s upcoming centennial in 2024.  In addition, as an Archives Intern you’ll focus on continuously developing your technical and professional skills. Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Assist in identifying and reviewing archival material

  • Gather and analyze input from potential users and stakeholders of the Archives

  • Assist in researching and analyzing archival tools and Archives facility considerations

  • Provide support to the records management team as needed

 

What are we looking for in an Intern?

Interested candidates should display an affinity for learning and problem-solving skills.  Interested candidates should be self-starters and should demonstrate strength in or a desire to build skills related to Grant Thornton’s core values of: Collaboration, Leadership, Excellence, Agility, Respect and Responsibility.

 

Qualifications

  • Pursuing or recently completed a Master’s degree that includes coursework in archives and records management; prefer 1+ year of study completed

  • Major and overall GPA of 3.0/4.0

  • Working knowledge of archival theory and practice

 

Skill Requirements

  • Excellent analytical, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

  • Strong technical aptitude, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Competency in business computer skills

  • Ability to perform highly detailed tasks

  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and independently

  • Enthusiasm to learn through a combination of structured, on-the-job and self-directed training.

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a complex team environment

  • Desire to pursue a career in archival work

  • Prior experience working in an office is a plus
