Evening Library & Education Program Assistant, Boston Psychoanalytic Society, Boston, MA

Purpose / Role

The Evening Program Assistant will be responsible for BPSI building security and management during BPSI’s evening programs, providing overall security, program, educational and library support.  An ideal candidate will have knowledge of library systems, as well as experience with A/V and excellent customer service skills.  

 

Standard hours will include between 16-24 hours/week, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 5:00-10:00pm & Thursday 4:00-10:00pm, with monthly Saturday shifts as needed.

 

Job Overview

The Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute (BPSI) is a post-graduate educational volunteer member organization that holds evening seminars, meetings, and programs for its members and the public. The organization operates education programs for the professional development of its members, faculty, and the public. Our members and students include mental health clinicians and academics. The Board of Trustees, committee members, and a small administrative staff manage the organization’s goals and priorities.

 

The staff supports BPSI’s educational programming by administering the seminars, conferences, and the library. Clinicians and academics who wish to pursue advanced training as psychoanalysts or psychoanalytic psychotherapists attend seminars that graduate members lead. Some seminars and conferences are open to the public. Professional development is accredited by national organizations. In order to maintain its eligibility with these organizations, BPSI must meet certain standards and the person in this position will assist with processing accreditation materials.

 

Responsibilities

The Evening Library & Education Program Assistant will perform a wide variety of tasks to support many facets of the organization and its programs. The assistant will help organize and administer seminars. Typical activities include the following tasks:

  • Provide front-desk customer service during peak hours
  • Manage cloud-based tools to send out mass emails, collect membership information, register participants for public events, and deliver surveys requesting feedback on classes and events
  • Prepare information, resources and communications for seminars and programs – library syllabi and articles, course packets, sign-in materials, emails, and social media announcements
  • Assist conference speakers and attendees by welcoming guests and running A/V equipment
  • Process continuing education certificates for program attendees
  • Provide information and attend to issues concerning events, the building, payments, and food orders

 

Qualifications

Necessary Skills

  •   Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office, information systems, CMS, social media and cloud-based systems
  • Comfort with evening building security management. 

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with WordPress and database systems.
