About Quinsigamond Community College:

QCC was established in 1963 to provide access to higher education to residents of Central Massachusetts. Since the early 60s, enrollment has grown from 300 to over 13,000 full and part-time day and evening students served. QCC offers over 70 associate degree and certificate career options in Business, Health Care, Technology, Liberal Arts, and Human Services. Additionally, over 137 credit and 300 noncredit courses are offered online, as well as a wide variety of classroom non-credit courses, workshops, and seminars. Classes are provided on the main campus, in downtown Worcester (Healthcare, Workforce Development, Continuing Education), at the Worcester Senior Center (Hospitality & Recreation Management), at Burncoat High School (Automotive Technology), and in the city of Southbridge.

 

Job Description:

General Statement of Responsibilities

Provides library circulation services and assists in the maintenance of Library materials. Assists with Library projects as needed, and provides assistance to Library users whenever needed.

 

Supervision Required:

Reports to the Circulation Manager.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Using both manual and automated systems, performs necessary library circulation desk functions, such as registering new patrons, checking out, checking in and renewing library materials and laptop computers. Assists in maintaining patron files.

2. Helps patrons use printers, photocopiers, laptop computers, and other library equipment.

3. Refers patrons to the Librarian on duty for research assistance.

4. Conducts inventory, prepares statistics, and creates library informational signs, as needed.

5. Assists in book and serials maintenance – shelves and shifts materials, maintains materials on shelves in good order, etc.

6. Assists in maintaining the Faculty Reserve collection.

7. Works additional evening shifts during the two week faculty evaluation periods near the end of each semester (mandatory). Under the supervision of the Evening Administrator conducts faculty classroom evaluations and other related duties.

8. Actively support the teaching and learning process; practicing honesty and integrity in and out of the classroom; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence.

9. Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork. Respect the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

1. Associate’s degree or equivalent.

2. Demonstrated keyboarding and computer operating skills.

3. Ability to gather information by examining records and documents.

4. Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and/or symbols and maintain

accurate records.

5. Ability to follow established workflow and procedures.

6. Ability to work independently.

7. Ability to communicate effectively and to follow oral and written instructions.

8. Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time and push library book trucks.

9. Competence in reading, writing and speaking English.

 

Preferred Qualifications

1. Work experience performing library circulation duties.

2. Familiarity with Library of Congress classification system.

3. Experience working with online circulation systems such as KOHA or other similar systems.

 

Additional Information:

Hours

Please Note: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays 4pm to 8pm during Fall and Spring Semesters and during Summer I and II when classes are in session (approximately 40 weeks per year). Additional day and evening shifts may be required, as needed, for coverage.

 

Salary: $12.75 per hour. No benefits.
