Library Director, Vermont Technical College, Randolph, VT

Job Description:

To direct, manage and coordinate all functions related to the college library, including the VSCS shared catalog and the library’s online resources and services. This position is shared by Vermont Tech and the Community College of Vermont (CCV) and the Library Director serves the library needs of both college communities, and also represents the library within the Vermont State Colleges System (VSCS).

 

Characteristic Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, administer, coordinate, monitor and evaluate the various functions and services of the library, including: the VSCS library shared catalog, reference and public services, interlibrary loan, VSCS intralibrary loan, technical services including acquisitions, cataloging and processing of materials.

  • Serve on VSCS Library Council.

  • Coordinate strategic planning for the library, formulating long-range and short-term objectives for the library.

  • Prepare and administer the library budget.

  • Prepare various kinds of statistical reports for evaluation of library resources and services.

  • Exercise full supervisory authority over the Vermont Technical College library staff and collaborate with the Assistant Hartness Library Director who is directly responsible for the supervision and staff development of the CCV librarians.

  • Plan and coordinate Vermont Tech staff development. Confer regularly with staff to plan, coordinate and review activities, resolve problems, assist with difficult or unusual tasks.

  • Coordinate collection development and maintenance.

  • Oversee library public relations and outreach.

  • Plan for library facilities and space management.

 

Requirements:

Masters degree in library science plus two to four years of relevant professional experience, including library planning and management, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

  • Excellent organizational, administrative, supervisory, communication, technical and interpersonal skills, and commitment to service and teamwork.

  • Experience coordinating and managing Library resources and services in an online environment.

  • Ability to travel throughout state to attend workshops, meetings, etc.

  • Valid driver’s license required.
