The Hudson Public Library has served the residents of Hudson and the surrounding area since 1867. Our current location at Wood Square was opened to the public in November 1905 and is approximately 15,000 square feet. Our team seeks to recruit a professional librarian experienced with technology and is passionate about public service with a desire to serve in a diverse community of nearly 20,000 residents.
Supervision
Works under the general direction of the Library Director and the policies established by the Board of Library Trustees. Orients, supervise, and evaluate all library employees, pages, volunteers, and interns within the Reference Department. Serves as the person in charge in the absence of the Library Director as delegated.
Essential Job Functions

Provides technical knowledge, daily administration, maintenance, and support for patron and staff access to library technology, workstations, equipment, and software.

Serves as the library’s liaison with the Town’s IT Department to select, maintain, and troubleshoot staff and public computers and equipment as needed.

Responsible for the purchase, installation, maintenance, integration, updates, repairs, and replacement of the library’s technology equipment, software, networks, and connectivity.

Assists library staff and patrons in the use of software and technology-related tasks as needed.

Provides user instruction and workshops for patrons in the use of library technology and resources.

In coordination with the Town’s IT Department, establishes and maintains a library network shared drive for staff.

Monitors and logs all purchases, renewals, and repairs for the library’s equipment, technology, and software licenses and agreements.

Coordinates strategic planning for the library’s present and future technology needs, including defining goals, evaluating and recommending solutions, planning and managing technology budget, and establishing maintenance, security, and disaster recovery procedures.

Compiles and interprets statistics and prepares reports concerning technology, equipment, digital resources, and communications.

Remains on call when the library is open to the public.
Other Job Functions

Oversees all aspects of reference services.

Effectively researches inquiries of varying complexity for patrons, using library materials, digital/online sources, and community resources.

Performs reader’s advisory, external library network requests, and collection management for print and digital reference material.

Provides reports on statistics, purchases, and renewals for digital resources and services.

Responsible for the library’s digital communication and publicity, including the homepage, events calendar, newsletter, flyers, brochures, social media, etc.

Offers recommendations on enhancements to services, policies, or procedures that will enable and encourage the use of technology among library patrons.

Establishes departmental goals to enhance reference services offered, including digital resources, databases, and emerging technologies.

Keeps current with new technologies, apps, software, knowledge, and trends via professional literature, conferences, webinars, etc.
Hours
37.5 hours a week, including one evening a week and one Saturday per month.
Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science; three years of progressive library experience, and experience in information technology, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
CORI & Physical Exam – Must successfully pass a Criminal Offenders Record Information check and a physical exam with drug screening.
Salary
Salary range is $43,335 – $57,032 in eight steps (with union benefits)
