Library Archivist/Museum Curator, Woburn Public Library, Woburn, MA

The Woburn Public Library is seeking a Library Archivist/Museum Curator to assist in the development, exhibition, marketing, and maintenance of high quality historical collections (artwork, photography, objects, and historical content across formats). The person in this position will take a leadership role in preserving the history of Woburn, telling the diverse story of the city – past, present, future – to enrich and strengthen community connections, fostering civic pride. He/she/they will develop stellar community programming to enthusiastically engage the Woburn community and serve its needs around historical and current topics of interest within the city.

 

  • Responsible for the integrity, relevancy, and ongoing assessment of the historical content, historical objects, artwork, and exhibitions offered to the public by the Woburn Public Library.

  • Maintains awareness of advanced techniques, newest procedures and latest equipment for delivery of library information services, historical content, and for the curation of library exhibitions.

  • Produces community programs, exhibits, and collection guides for the broadest audiences, marketing the library’s services and collections.

  • Provides reference services, events, and programming in support of upcoming and current exhibitions, publications and other institutional initiatives.

  • Ensures that the collections, programming, services, and exhibitions support introspection, inclusivity, interaction, investigation, connectivity, co-creation, and Consumption.

  • Works collaboratively with outside organizations, strengthening community partnerships and co-creating community initiatives.

  • Responsible for the functioning of Archives and Museum services and activities on a daily basis.

 

This position reports to and works under the general supervision of the Library Director and Assistant Director.

Performs all other library work and participates in special library projects as required or necessary. Schedule will include evenings and weekend work.

Experience Desired

  • Advanced degree in Library Science and/or Museum Studies required, equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience curating cultural content, implementing exhibits and/or community programs to diverse audiences to maximize community engagement and utilization.
  • Experience working with a diverse user community inclusive of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Experience implementing innovative collection development and collection management procedures.
  • Knowledge of current issues and trends in collection and exhibition management, development, programming, and marketing.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in multiple formats.
  • Demonstrated professional behavior and excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team and problem solve creatively.

Salary Range: $57,802.92 to $71,37.61, commensurate with experience
