The Board of Directors of the Albert Einstein Institution is seeking an experienced archivist to provide guidance on establishing the archival collection of the scholar and political scientist Gene Sharp. For more information on Gene Sharp and the historical significance of his work on the field of study and practice of nonviolent struggle, please see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_Sharp and https://www.howtostartarevolution.org/
We are seeking an archivist to work on a freelance and short-term basis to help us to determine how best to catalogue, store, preserve and provide access to this uniquely valuable archival collection for the long term.
This will include the following activities:
1. Surveying the material, in accordance with the principles of provenance and original order, to provide a general overview of the collection in terms of the quantity and condition of the material. To the extent possible, describe structure, function, and activities to aid in understanding the contextual logical order of these records.
2. Making recommendations for the long-term preservation of the archival material, including options for transfer to an institution.
3. Guidance on options for digitization of the archives and management of electronic records.
4. Determining the meta description that should be collected in this initial assessment.
5. Collecting information that can be used in a fundraising proposal for the archive.
6. Determining any special storage needs for the material.
7. Identifying material that will not be selected for permanent preservation (for the Board’s consideration).
