About the Society
From the American Revolution to the biotech revolution, the history of Cambridge is unlike that of any other city. Working with our Cambridge community, the Cambridge Historical Society connects our past to our present and future, serves as steward of our local history, and inspires curiosity in generations to come.
About the Role
The Society seeks an intern to assist the development of a History Café program on Revolutionary War era Cambridge women as part of our 2020 annual theme, “Who Are Cambridge Women?”
Activities
1. Research women in Cambridge in the years leading up to and during the Revolutionary War, using (but not limited to) the primary source material in the Society’s permanent collection;
2. Assist in identifying speaker(s), moderator, and appropriate venue for a May History Café on the topic;
3. Support the Program Manager in marketing and social media around the event;
4. Write 2-3 blog posts about your experience researching and developing the program.
Compensation: $1,200 stipend upon project completion
The ideal candidate:
- Has experience in history, public history, museum studies, or related field;
- Has strong research skills and familiarity handling archival material;
- Is comfortable using social media and WordPress;
- Has a sense of humor, is a dedicated team member, and believes in the power of public history.
Timing and Location
The Society seeks an Intern for Spring 2020. Time commitment is 100 hours, schedule flexible. Some work can be completed off-site.
The Society’s headquarters, the Hooper-Lee-Nichols House, is a 20-minute walk from Harvard Square. Off-street parking available. House is not ADA-accessible.
