Assistant Branch Supervisor, Brockton Public Library, Brockton, MA

Applications for the position of Assistant Branch Supervisor are being accepted for appointment by the Board of Library Trustees on or after . This is a full time (35 hours per week) year round position required to work two out of four Saturdays, two evenings a week, on an as needed basis, may be assigned. The position will be subject to a six (6) month probationary work period. The position will be compensated in seven step raises (on or after the anniversary of employment).

Duties

  • Assists Branch Librarian in the operation of the branch library  

  • Assumes responsibility for branch building during absence of Branch Librarian  

  • Supervises staff volunteers  

  • Provides reference and readers’ advisory services to patrons  

  • Provides full range of circulation services: charges, renews, reserves and shelves library materials; issues library cards; processes overdue notices and reports  

  • Assists patrons and staff in using computer resources  

  • Inputs data into OCLN database  

  • Prints and responds to reports from OCLN  

  • Assists with or conducts weekly storytelling sessions  

  • Maintains displays and exhibits  

  • Maintains branch supplies  

  • Participates in workshop and training opportunities  

  • Substitutes in any department or branch when circumstances call for such a temporary transfer  

  • Performs and other duties that may be assigned by the Branch Librarian, the Assistant Library Director or the Library Director

 

Qualifications

  • Some college required  

  • Working knowledge of computers and the Internet required  

  • Experience working in a library required; public services department preferred  

  • Ability to train and supervise assigned employees and/or volunteers  

  • Experience working with children preferred  

  • Knowledge of reference resources and popular fiction preferred  

  • Ability to relate to patrons and staff with professional friendliness, patience, tact and resourcefulness
