Emerging Technologies Instruction Librarian, Boise State University, Boise, ID

Albertsons Library’s Emerging Technologies and Experiential Learning Unit invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in Fall 2020. This is a new position and would be ideal for any recent graduate looking to develop their skills and join in a highly reputable, nationally-known, academic makerspace environment. The MakerLab is growing partnerships within the university. These exciting partnerships allow for creativity and growth.

Due to this growth and partnerships, the individual in this position would gain the opportunity to create a positive impact in the community through collaborations with faculty, staff, and students from all disciplines and backgrounds. The individual in this position will receive mentorship, support, and connections to be successful and thrive in their career as we learn together.

 

This newly created position is an exciting opportunity to help the Boise State community create new information, develop information literacy skills, through a maker instruction program. In addition, as part of a team, they will implement services for researchers and learners at Boise State University in support of the Library’s mission and vision. This position requires a commitment to developing student-focused services and a combination of skills and confidence that will contribute to the transformation of instruction, outreach, reference, and collections at Albertsons Library. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction, research consultations and outreach services to students, faculty and staff with complex information and research needs, which also include faculty partnerships with community groups

  • Work with faculty to provide instruction and meet information needs, including collaboration and partnership on assignment development, as well as implementing information literacy goals into the curriculum.

  • Work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, and students in emerging areas of scientific data management services, open access, and scholarly and/or scientific communication.

  • Provide in-depth reference assistance, conduct specialized instruction sessions, and create online resource guides, including online tutorials and subject guide portals. Provide general reference services to all students, faculty, and staff.

  • Identify, evaluate, implement, and teach the use of new and emerging technologies to improve student learning.

  • Has the ability to learn how to utilize emerging technologies, including, but not limited to: 3D printing, tactile tools for creation, technologies for learning and manipulating computational knowledge, mobile technologies, and social media.

  • Serves as library liaison to one or more academic departments.

  • Participate in library and other committees as assigned.

  • Provide evening and weekend library services as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from an American Library Association accredited library program

  • Evidence of a user-centered practice with regards to information services and instruction in an academic library setting

 

The successful candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Ability to learn and implement new technologies and tools within the contexts of research and teaching

  • Experience in solving problems independently and collaboratively

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team within a culturally diverse user community of faculty, students, and staff

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Knowledge of current professional trends

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or expertise outside of library and information sciences

  • Experience working in an academic library with emerging technologies and makerspaces in higher education

  • Demonstrated ability to develop ideas from initial proposal to production and implementation

  • Experience managing projects in a library, academic, or information environment

 

Salary and Benefits

The Albertsons Library MakerLab is a leader in developing culturally responsive maker practices. The work of the MakerLab was showcased at the White House in 2016 for the efforts to establish a diverse and inclusive maker culture. Individuals involved in the MakerLab are highly engaged and passionate about improving the lives of those in our communities.

The MakerLab provides instruction for more than 30 courses per year, and each day on average 40 students use the MakerLab to learn, expand, and develop their skills and ideas.
