Manager of Library Resource Sharing, Southern New Hampshire University, Manchester, NH

Southern New Hampshire University’s traditional campus is seeking a Manager of Library Resource Sharing. The Manager of Library Resource Sharing holds primary responsibility for the Shapiro Library’s resource sharing and delivery service, including interlibrary loan, off-campus library services and document delivery. This responsibility includes the successful oversight of resource delivery systems and workflows as well as the development and enforcement of resource delivery best practices and policies.

 

The Manager of Library Resource Sharing also works as a member of the Shapiro Library reference team, providing prompt, courteous and supportive reference service to all library users seeking information and research assistance via chat, email, in-person and telephone reference interviews.

 

Essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Provides leadership and management for Shapiro Library’s resource delivery service, encompassing interlibrary loan (borrowing and lending), delivery of materials in electronic and physical formats to off-campus users, and the service’s intersections with Circulation and Technical Services workflows

  • Directly supervises one full-time staff member (Interlibrary Loan / Off-Campus Library Services Coordinator) and oversees the resource sharing work duties of a second full-time staff member (Collections, Access and Facilities Library Coordinator)

  • Maintains resource delivery systems (OCLC Tipasa, Article Galaxy Reprints Desk, etc.) and manages implementation of software used in providing document delivery and ILL services; Maintains current knowledge of system updates and changes

  • Monitors resource sharing processes and workflows, and establishes priorities in order to develop and recommend improvements and updates

  • Evaluates and recommends new technology and services that could improve processes and workflow

  • Determines, develops and promotes resource sharing best practices and policies

  • Oversees fiscal activities relating to resource sharing and prepares accurate statistics and reports in a timely manner

  • Maintains knowledge of current national and international resource sharing best practices, and monitors emerging trends that affect resource sharing/ILL/document delivery services

  • Maintains awareness of current and evolving scholarly communication trends as they relate to resource sharing/ILL/document delivery services

  • Participates in the creation, development, and maintenance of instructional tools, aids, guides, webpages, and tutorials as needed to actively promote resource sharing services

  • Staffs the reference desk and provides service to all SNHU community members

  • Conducts thorough reference interview to determine users’ questions and extent of information needed

  • Instructs users in developing research strategies to locate, evaluate and use resources in an effective and ethical manner

  • Assists users with general information on citation styles, technology and University information

  • Assists with basic troubleshooting of access issues and/or refers to appropriate Library personnel or University department

  • Refers users to make individual instruction appointments for more in-depth research assistance as needed

  • Refers users to other University departments for information as needed

  • Other duties and projects as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program

  • Minimum of 2 years academic library experience in interlibrary loan/document delivery services and reference/public service operations

  • Knowledge of ILL standards and policies, including copyright compliance

  • Prior supervisory experience

  • Strong computer-based skills including knowledge of Microsoft Office, e-mail, and web searching and basic computer troubleshooting

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Springshare products such as LibAnswers, LibChat and LibGuides

  • High level of comfort with technology; the ability to learn new technology quickly and efficiently

  • Experience working with online/distance education students

  • Experience with library resource delivery systems and integrated library systems, OCLC Tipasa and/or Millennium

 

Work Hours: 

Typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm with flexibility to meet business demands as needed to include occasional nights and weekend.
