Definition
Performs professional librarian tasks for Library Department. Has responsibility for management of childrens’ library services. May serve as Director in his or her absence.
Essential Functions:

Plans, organizes, and publicizes childrens’ programs, including but not limited to story time, films and special events, reading clubs, school and community outreach

Plans, organizes, and maintains the library’s childrens’ collection. Continually analyses collection for development needs. Reads, reviews, and selects books and other material for purchase

Provides reader’s advisory service for children and families. Assists children in use of library and its resources. Assists parents and other adults in selection of appropriate children’s material

Maintains a pleasant, inviting, safe environment for children. Is trained in safety and evacuation techniques, and able to execute in case of emergencies

Participates in the formulation of policy and develops procedures related to Childrens’ Services. Interprets policy and explains procedure to the public

Makes presentations in conjunction with the director to community groups to explain library programs and services. Receives complaints and/or special requests from patrons and community groups, providing response or conflict resolution.

Attends professional library conferences, seminars and network committees; reads professional literature; attends and participates in staff meeting discussions to ensure that Childrens’ Library meets and exceeds patron expectations

Compiles, reviews and interprets statistical data regarding use of children’s services. Prepares regular management reports for review by Director

Coordinates and trains volunteers assigned to childrens’ area

Provides material classification and cataloging services as needed

May serve as Director during the absence of the incumbent.

Assists in other areas of the library when needed

Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications

Three to five (3-5) years of related experience.

Bachelor’s Degree required, postgraduate coursework preferred.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and Saturdays.

The ideal candidate is customer-focused, friendly, able to handle situations with discretion and tact, takes initiative, is resourceful, and practices good judgment, both individually and as part of a team.

Must have experience with Integrated Library Systems, Evergreen preferred

Familiarity with Windows and Mac operating systems

Respect for the privacy of library patrons and staff

Must be able to stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, and lift 45lbs.

At least one year of supervisory experience preferred.

Revere residency preferred

Education: BA/BS
Salary: $25.59 – $28.35 per hour 39 hours/week
