Editorial Assistant, Highlights for Children, Honesdale, PA

Highlights Press is the branded book publishing imprint of Highlights for Children that publishes books in a variety of formats from board books to fiction, which are sold primarily through bookstores, as well as national chain stores and warehouse clubs, grocery stores, and airport stores. Our diverse portfolio of products includes activity books and pads, puzzle books, leveled readers, nonfiction, and picture books. The book publishing division of Highlights for Children believes in publishing books for children of all ages that are engaging, inspiring, interesting, and fun.  

  

We have an immediate opening for an Editorial Assistant. The position is full-time with medical benefits and a retirement-program opportunity.  

  

Primary Roles & Responsibilities:  

• Work closely with the Highlights Press editorial department to accomplish the duties listed below, reporting to two full-time Senior Editors. The ideal candidate must have outstanding editing, writing, and interpersonal skills and must demonstrate strong interests in children and publishing.  

  

Duties:    

• Create manuscripts or book maps for puzzle and activity books in existing publishing formats

• Create content libraries for new books in ongoing series

• Research formats and price points for new product lines

• Gather materials for puzzle and activity books from our asset database

• Develop books for proprietary publishing partners

• Serve as liaison between licensing partners and the editorial & marketing staff

• Write tip sheets and research competitive series

• Proof puzzle and activity book series passes

• Maintain publishing plan spreadsheets and take meeting notes

• Perform other editorial tasks as necessary

    

Requirements:  

•   Bachelor’s degree at minimum 

• Demonstrated interests in children and publishing

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Ability to relocate to northeastern Pennsylvania
