Assistant Managing Editor, Highlights for Children, Honesdale, PA

Our wide variety of “Fun with a Purpose” magazines and books are dedicated to helping children become their best selves–creative, curious, caring, and confident. 

 

The Assistant Managing Editor will manage the flow of reprints and select book projects, as assigned by the Managing Editorial Supervisor, through the editorial process. This role works closely with Editorial, Design, and Production departments to create and maintain smooth workflows while ensuring high editorial standards for all publications across all imprints, including Highlights Press, Highlights Learning, and Direct to Consumer Projects.

 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Serve as liaison with Editorial, Design, and Production departments, as well as with external resources, to ensure that assigned titles stay on schedule.

  • Traffic materials through the editorial and design process efficiently and according to applicable workflow.

  • Update appropriate scheduling documents on an ongoing basis.

  • Oversee copyediting and proofreading of titles when appropriate.

  • Become knowledgeable of internal systems and programs, particularly InCopy, Firebrand, and the DAMS.

  • Maintain title information in Firebrand as assigned.

  • Special projects as required.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent copy-editing and proofreading skills.

  • Excellent skills in the Microsoft Office Suite with ability to learn our existing software. Experience with InCopy is a plus.

  • Ability to easily take on new tasks as they arise and reprioritize appropriately.

  • Self-motivated and able to manage a large workload in a fast-paced environment.

  • 1-2 years of experience in publishing (or a related field) preferred.

  • Relocation to Northeastern Pennsylvania.
