Part-Time Help & Information Desk Assistant, Northeastern University, Boston, MA

Dates: November, 2019 – June 2020

Pay: $20/hour

Hours: 15 hours/week (7.5 hours every Saturday, other days can be negotiated upon hire)

Summary:

The Information Delivery & Access Services Department supports Northeastern University by cultivating a welcoming environment that supports teaching, learning, and research. IDEAS Associates provide high-quality customer service focused on supervising weekend help & information desk operations, assist with supervising student employees and helping library users navigate and access Northeaster’s physical and digital library resources and services.

Under the supervision of the Access Services Librarian, the Part-Time Help & Information Desk Assistant provides direct service at the Help & Information Desk contributes to the circulation, access and privileges, reserves, resource sharing, and collections maintenance operations of the department, serves as shift supervisor for 1 – 7 student employees working at the Help & Information Desk, the Access Point, and Stacks.

Staff member responsible on Saturdays. Will supervise the Help and Information Desk and provide support for the student employees.

50% (approx. 7 hours on Saturday)

Assist in departmental projects (see below for project list)

30%

Attend departmental meetings and contribute to conversation and updates.

Other duties as assigned

The employee will also have the opportunity to assist full time IDEAS staff with projects including but not limited to:

  • Student Worker Training Program
    • Updating and evaluating quizzes and student manual (using SpringShare products)
    • Assist in digitizing training checklists for new student employees.
    • Adapting print training materials to an online planform

 

  • Course reserves (ExLibris products Alma and Leganto)
    • Assisting with processing of materials
    • Assisting with gathering and interpreting statistical data

 

  • Collection Inventory
    • Gathering statistical data

 

  • Data analysis and visualization (Tableau)
    • Gather assessment data
    • Load datasets into Tableau
