Position Opening: Library Director, Stockbridge Library, Museum & Archives
Location: Stockbridge, Massachusetts
Salary: Regionally competitive salary with benefits (health/dental insurance, sick leave, paid vacation and holidays, 401K retirement plan)
Hours: Full-time, some evenings and weekends
Nestled in the beautiful Berkshires of western Massachusetts, the Stockbridge area offers history, celebrity, romance and intrigue. We are home to the Norman Rockwell Museum, Tanglewood, Naumkeag, The Berkshire Theatre Group, Chesterwood, Berkshire Botanical Garden, the Red Lion Inn, Austen Riggs Center and our annual Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas. With a year-round population of approximately 1,800 that expands substantially during the summer months, the region offers excellent year-round outdoor recreational activities at your doorstep.
Reporting to the 13-member Board of Trustees–the Stockbridge Library Association (a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization), the Library Director is responsible for the operations of this historic library that is a vibrant center of our community. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of its services and programs, including: assisting the board with long-range planning and policy development, and managing all library resources, including budgets, personnel; coordination with the Central Western Massachusetts Library System (CW/MARS) and related Evergreen software to help promote and improve system service; provide library outreach and serve as liaison with town officials and the community. The director also oversees the maintenance and security of our beautiful newly renovated (in 2016) library building and grounds.
This is an exciting time for the Stockbridge Library, Museum & Archives as we are developing enhanced initiatives around excellence in children’s, teen, and adult programming along with special events that are hallmarks of our community-oriented library.
Qualifications:
Masters in Library Science (or degree in progress) from an A.L.A. accredited institution plus a minimum of two to three (2-3) years of progressively responsible public library leadership, administration, and management experience. Because the director hires, mentors and supervises all library personnel, including substitutes and volunteers, at least two (2) years of supervisory experience is required.
Preferred candidates should have demonstrated knowledge of emerging trends in public libraries and excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and a commitment to improving and expanding existing and new library programs through grant writing and fundraising initiatives. Technology requirements include demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Google, OCLC and the ability to learn various software applications including Evergreen, CW/MARS and other computer related applications as needed.
