Reference and Information Literacy Librarian, Saint Joseph’s College, Standish, ME

The Wellehan Library-Learning Commons at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, ME is seeking candidates for the position of Reference and Information Literacy Librarian.  This is a full-time, 12 month position with a regular work schedule of Sundays-Thursdays, 1:00pm-9:00pm. 

 

The Reference and Information Literacy Librarian supports the Wellehan Library-Learning Commons by: developing, teaching, and assessing information literacy classes and curriculum; providing reference services; supporting students in their use of educational technologies; assisting in the development of the print and online reference collections; and providing circulation assistance, troubleshooting access issues, and operating and maintaining library equipment and providing technical assistance to students and faculty.

 

Responsibilities

Develops, teaches, and assesses information literacy classes and curriculum by:

  • Designing and implementing in-class and online information literacy instruction;

  • Collaborating with faculty and program directors to plan and deliver information literacy initiatives;

  • Developing print and digital learning objects and other materials to promote and facilitate optimal use of library resources;

  • Acting as an embedded librarian and providing point-of-need research and information literacy instruction within the learning management system; 

  • Promoting information literacy instruction to faculty and students.

Provides reference services by:

  • Conducting specialized research consultations in person, by phone, and by email, text, and chat;

  • Training students in the use of online databases, ebooks, other research materials, and the library website;

  • Training new colleagues as necessary in the use of the library’s print and online reference resources;

  • Contributing to staff meetings and sending emails regarding changes in reference policies, resources, and/or services;

  • Recording reference transactions in the statistics application.

 

Education and Experience

  • Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program required.

  • Experience providing reference services and information literacy instruction required.

  • Experience employing technologies to provide and enhance library services required.
