Rhode Island College’s James P. Adams Library seeks a part-time Special Collections Assistant to assist the Digital Archivist & Special Collections Librarian with archival processing, digitization, research and other projects to promote and facilitate access to the library’s special collections.
Duties include but are not limited to:

Organizing and rehousing of archival collections

Creating finding aids
-
Data entry
-
Staffing the Reading Room to assist and monitor researchers as needed

Digitizing print and photographic materials
-
Metadata creation for digital collections
Qualifications
Required:
-
Good organization skills
-
Attention to detail
-
Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
-
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with the MS Office suite and willingness to learn new software tools

Ability to work independently and with others
-
Historical research skills and interest in history
-
Bachelor’s degree
-
Library special collections or archives experience, or relevant coursework completed
Preferred:
-
MLS/MLIS or enrollment in a master’s program for library and information science

Experience using databases
-
Familiarity with Photoshop and other Adobe applications
Schedule: up to 19 hours/week scheduled between the days/hours of Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
Compensation: $20/hour
