Special Collections Assistant, Rhode Island College, Providence, RI

Rhode Island College’s James P. Adams Library seeks a part-time Special Collections Assistant to assist the Digital Archivist & Special Collections Librarian with archival processing, digitization, research and other projects to promote and facilitate access to the library’s special collections.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Organizing and rehousing of archival collections

  • Creating finding aids

  • Data entry

  • Staffing the Reading Room to assist and monitor researchers as needed

  • Digitizing print and photographic materials

  • Metadata creation for digital collections

 

Qualifications

Required:

  • Good organization skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing

  • Basic computer skills, including familiarity with the MS Office suite and willingness to learn new software tools

  • Ability to work independently and with others

  • Historical research skills and interest in history

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Library special collections or archives experience, or relevant coursework completed

 

Preferred:

  • MLS/MLIS or enrollment in a master’s program for library and information science

  • Experience using databases

  • Familiarity with Photoshop and other Adobe applications

 

Schedule: up to 19 hours/week scheduled between the days/hours of Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm

Compensation: $20/hour
