CSSPP Graduate Assistant, Simmons University, Boston, MA

The College of Social Sciences, Policy, and Practice (CSSPP) is looking to hire one Graduate Assistant to start immediately to provide administrative/office and programmatic support, primarily for the CSSPP Departments of Sociology and Public Health. The ideal candidate is engaged and pro-active and will help maintain a professional but welcoming atmosphere in the Departments’ suite. The Graduate Assistant will be part of a team that also supports other CSSPP faculty and staff.

 

This position will be up to 20/hrs per week during the Spring 2020 semester. Ideally, the successful candidate will train with our current (SLIS) graduate assistant during November and December 2019, up to 10/hrs per week, with additional hours as needed – assisting faculty and staff across CSSPP – and as candidate availability permits. Starting hourly rate: $15.

 

Responsibilities can include but are not limited to:

  • Supervision of undergraduate student workers’ tasks and general office workflow;

  • Front desk coverage: greeting office visitors, fielding student and faculty inquiries, answering phones, ensuring timely delivery of mail/packages;

  • Administrative duties: photocopying and scanning, filing, data entry;

  • Helping with logistics and publicity for department events;

  • Coordinating production of office publications: course offering brochures, events flyers, and student guides;

  • Supporting faculty with course material research, preparation, and acquisition along with updating courses in Moodle;

  • Maintaining inventory and organization of office supplies;

  • Updating department social media as needed;

  • Assisting with other special projects and duties as requested and according to talents.

 

Qualifications and considerations include:

  • Must be enrolled in a Simmons graduate program (at least two courses) in good standing;

  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, responsible, and self-motivated;

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Apps, Adobe Acrobat;

  • Ideal candidate has demonstrated project management, customer service skills, and supervisory experience;

  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud apps (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.) and possess interest/ability to learn new apps as needed, a plus.

 

This position will be located in the Sociology Department’s office suite (MCB C-205) and the office coverage hours will be determined, falling within the normal University operating hours of 8:30-4:30, M-TH.
