Processing Assistant, New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston, MA

The R. Stanton Avery Special Collections at the New England Historic Genealogical Society (NEHGS) has an opening for a part-time processing assistant to support the processing and cataloging activities of our three archivists. Common tasks will include re-foldering, labeling, arranging files, creating folder lists, completing basic conservation tasks, identifying LCSH headings, and assisting with the creation of MARC records.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:

Completion of LIS 438 and 440 or similar introductory archives coursework

Demonstrated knowledge of archival principles and practices, particularly those relating to the processing of a manuscript collection

Knowledge of archival content metadata standards and current practice in archival arrangement and description including DACS (Describing Archives: A Content Standard)

Understanding of proper care and handling of special collections

Work experience processing manuscript collections
Skills:

Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are required

Strong organizational and analytical skills

Close attention to detail

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment

Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
Compensation
28 hours per week at $20 per hour
