School Archivist, Buckingham, Browne & Nichols Upper School, Cambridge, MA

BB&N is seeking a part-time School Archivist. Primary responsibilities are to assess, process, and manage the school’s archival records. The School Archivist will develop, implement, and manage procedures for the arrangement, description, preservation, digitization, and accessibility of the archives, bringing the archive in line with current best practices. The School Archivist will work closely with school Librarians to build connections with faculty, staff, and alumni/ae in order to provide reference and instruction and grow the collection. This is a 20-hours per week, 12-month position with flexible hours.

Skills and Competencies: 

The successful candidate will have at least a Bachelor’s degree. An MS degree in Library & Information Science with a concentration in Archives Management is preferred. However, individuals with relevant processing experience who are currently enrolled in a program may also be considered. The successful candidate will have strong multi-tasking and self-starter skills. The candidate should be comfortable working independently and willing to establish connections with a range of school constituents. The School Archivist will demonstrate solid competencies, including: 

  • enjoyment working with students in an educational setting;

  • strong attention to detail;

  • excellent organizational skills;

  • familiarity with Microsoft Office software;

  • the ability to lift 40 pounds;

  • excellent oral and written communication skills; 

  • the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues; 

  • high standards of professional conduct; and

  • a good sense of humor.
