Library Technician – Circulation, Georgetown Peabody Library, Georgetown, MA

The Georgetown Peabody Library seeks an energetic, enthusiastic, outgoing person to work at our busy Circulation Desk. This is a paraprofessional technical position reporting to the Library Director. This position averages 10-14 hours per week including evenings, a rotation of Saturdays, or as designated by the Library Director.
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for covering the library’s Circulation Desk. This includes checking library materials in and out at Circulation Desk, placing books on reserve and contacting patrons regarding availability of reserve items, and registering new library patrons and updating patron information into the Symphony system. This position provides general reference and readers/audiovisual/technology advisory service to the public, processes new books for circulation – including jackets, stamps, embossing, call number labels and any other stickers, reserves meeting rooms and museum passes for patrons. The Library Technician supports the general library activities such as covering the Reference Desk, technical services, and assisting the Circulation Librarian and/or Cataloging/Reference Librarian when needed.
Qualifications
Recommended minimum qualification of high school graduation and one year of library experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
Proven ability and desire to work effectively with the public. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Experience with the use of the internet, social media, databases and library systems (SirsiDynix Symphony preferred). Ability to work independently and as a team member. Detailed oriented and exhibits considerable judgment skills. Knowledge of computers, operating systems, and other technology equipment; ability to perform basic tasks and troubleshooting such as installing software, resolving printing issues, etc.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift a minimum of ten pounds, to reach all library shelving with aid of step ladder and to stand for a minimum of four hours.
Compensation and Hours
$16.7284 per hour. Sick time benefits only.
Tuesdays 3-8pm, Wednesdays 3-8pm, one to two Saturdays a month 9am-1pm (September to June). Potential for additional hours if coverage is needed.
