Course Instructor, Digital Media Academy – Harvard University, Cambridge,MA,

Course Instructors are the rockstars of Digital Media Academy summer camps. As the head of the classroom, Course Instructors lead students into explorations of gaming, filmmaking, programming, art, and robotics. They have a strong understanding of their subject matter, a genuine desire to work with and lead a group of teens or kids. They are patient, energetic, and able to let their guard down and have fun!

Our Instructors should have a unique blend of professional industry experience and teaching experience along with a college degree. At Digital Media Academy, we pride ourselves in providing a learning experience that is non-traditional and built specifically for teens and their learning style. Instructors need to not only be strong in their subject matter, but they need to be confident in leading groups of 6-17 years olds through an immersive week of hands-on, project-based learning. Instructors should have expertise and passion for their subject matter. More importantly, Instructors should have a genuine desire to work with teens and to teach. Instructors need to be flexible, patient, high energy and able to have fun with the student.

DIGITAL MEDIA ACADEMY DOES NOT PROVIDE HOUSING OR ASSIST WITH HOUSING FOR THIS POSITION.

ESSENTIAL JOBS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach key concepts in a variety of formats: hands-on, direct instruction, group work and one-on-one with students
  • Utilize our provided curriculum and resources, ensuring an organized, fun, and rewarding experience for students
  • Teach with passion, structure and expertise while guiding students through the completion of a personal project
  • Depending on the size and scope of the class, collaborate with and oversee one or more Assistant Instructors/TA’s who will assist with group project work, one-on-one with students and/or a sub-group of students during the week
  • Take part in weekly staff meetings, to occur before and/or after camp on a designated day each week
  • Oversee and engage with students outside of class during breaks and lunch
  • Assist with set up before camp starts, classroom turnover at the end of each week as necessary and camp teardown when camp ends
  • Assist with student check in and orientation on Monday mornings

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for this job will have expertise and/or ability to quickly learn a selection of the software, hardware or languages listed below. For example, a candidate could have Filmmaking and Visual Effects experience using Apple Final Cut Pro and a professional HD camera.

Game Design: Minecraft, Minecraft server plug-ins, Minecraft Forge API, MCEdit, Fortnite, World Edit, Unreal Engine 4, AutoDesk Maya, Adobe Photoshop, Unity, C#, Oculus SDK, Roblox

Filmmaking + Photography: Adobe After Effects, Apple iMovie, Adobe Premiere Pro, Toon Boom Studios, Claymation, Adobe Animate, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Canon professional HD cameras, DSLR Cameras, Twitch, YouTube Channel creation

3D Modeling + Design: Autodesk Maya, 3D Animation, 3D CGI Models, TinkerCAD, Autodesk123D, 3D Printers, CLO Virtual Fashion

Music Production: Ableton Live, Traktor DJ Software, Hercules DJ Controller, MIDI Keyboard, Logic Pro X

Programing: Xcode, iOS, Swift, Java, Processing, Eclipse IDE for Java, Artificial Intelligence, Mobile Web Design, Front End Web Development, Scratch, Thunkable, Javascript.

Robotics + Engineering: Arduino, Arduino microcontrollers, LEGO EV3 Software, VEX Robotics, LEGO EV3 Robotics Kit, LEGO Digital Designer, hands-on circuits, Lilypad Arduino, Pi-Top, Raspberry Pi

  • BA or BS degree completed or nearly completed (college senior with minimum of 2-3 years of coursework relevant to class subject matter)*
  • Professional classroom or tutoring experience with students ages 6-17 preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with both kids and parents
  • Patience, flexibility, energy, and a sense of humor
  • Positive Attitude
  • Portfolio submission

*In select cases Digital Media Academy will consider a combination of professional work experience and specific education in place of a degree.
