General Statement of Duties:
Under the supervision of the Head of Reference Services of the Niagara Falls Public Library, this position at the main downtown branch focuses on providing library services to adults and researchers alike. May be assigned to other areas as needed.
Classification: Librarian I – Civil Service
While open to all, preference is given to residents legal residents of Niagara County or Erie County.
Candidates must submit verifiable proof of MLS to demonstrate minimum qualifications (transcripts or copy of degree) Candidates who already possess a NYS Public Librarian’s Professional Certificate must provide copy of Certificate or number of Certificate and date issued.
Job Description:
Provides library service to adults visitors, including managing an active main reading/reference room; prepares for and conducts programs; assists in maintaining the department’s collections; promotes use of library materials ( both physical and online) and services; performs outreach to community agencies as needed.

Required Skills and Abilities:
Passion for and knowledge of adult literature; familiarity with current library technologies; the ability to perform both independently and as a team member; experience in planning and conducting adult programming;, excellent communication skills; enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility and a sense of humor. Desire to work in fast-paced urban environment a must.
Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from a registered college or university accredited by the American Library Association or registered by the NYS Education Department to grant degrees with a Master’s Degree in Library Science, Information Services or equivalent. Must have applied for New York State Public Librarian Certification at the time of appointment.
Preferred: Secondary language skills (Spanish or French) desirable. Previous reference experience or equivalent coursework desirable.
Work Schedule: The schedule will consist of daytime, evening and weekend shifts totaling 35 hours per week.

Salary: $34,455 per annum, vacation / sick leave, medical, dental benefits, NYS retirement eligible
