Hadley’s Goodwin Memorial Library seeks a qualified individual to assume the position of Youth Services Coordinator, a part-time, non-benefit position. The position averages 15 hours per week with a preferred schedule of Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon/evening, and Saturday. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, highly collaborative, outgoing and innovative.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Plans, promotes and implements special programs for youth with an emphasis on young adults in a small, dynamic, collaborative work environment.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the supervision of the Director of the library and in close collaboration with the Children’s Services Librarian.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Oversees special assistants (volunteers) generally during summer months.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: In collaboration with the Children’s Services Librarian, the Youth Services Coordinator plans, promotes and implements special programs for children and young adults; helps to implement and maintain an attractive, welcoming space for children and young adults; assists in the execution of programming and library/technology instruction for other age groups as needed; prepares and issues fliers and press releases; utilizes social media; periodically confers with school administrators and teachers; selects books and other materials for young adults.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Covers circulation desk as required; performs other duties as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a general library environment which is a public setting. Temperatures are not extreme and the noise level is moderate. Employee is exposed to common germs, paper, book dust and computers. Frequent sitting, standing, stair climbing, reaching, twisting, squatting and some lifting (up to 40 lbs.) are required. Ability to operate computers and other office equipment requiring hand-eye coordination and finger dexterity is required.
HOURS AND SALARY: Average 15 hours per week and generally coinciding with after-school hours and Saturdays. $13.95 per hour.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Demonstrated familiarity with Evergreen software; knowledge and background in circulation and/or copy cataloging methods; considerable initiative in devising new and original programs for youth with an emphasis on technology (coding, gaming, etc.); ability to work well with adolescents, both individually and in groups; ability to deal effectively with parents, teachers and school administrators; proficient in the use of computers and associated hardware; familiarity and proficiency with a variety of social media; ability to assist patrons in the use of library applications and online resources.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES: Ability to work with associates and the public in a friendly, courteous manner; ability to communicate and collaborate effectively; proficiency and enthusiasm for technology; neat personal appearance; shows initiative; sound judg ment.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Requires Bachelor’s Degree plus two years specialized library experience.
