Research Analyst, Simmons College, Boston, MA

Working with the Director of Institutional Research, the Research Analyst serves as a resource to the Simmons College leadership by generating sophisticated institutional information to support data-driven decision making and institutional strategic planning.
The primary purpose of this position is to prepare statistical and analytical reports on faculty, staff, students and finances; to collect data for and coordinate external reports, including but not limited to IPEDS, CDS, and US News and World Report.
The successful individual will demonstrate superior analytical and statistical expertise researching raw data, providing statistical analysis and drafting and presenting detailed conclusions to assist with the College’s assessment initiatives and contributing to the College’s effort to improve student retention and success and helping achieve enrollment goals.
Essential Functions:
- Collaborate with other departments on campus, such as Enrollment, Registrar, Financial Aid, and Information Technology, for a coordinated approach to collecting, extracting, and acquiring data and reporting, including, but not limited to IPEDS, CDS, and US News and World Report
- Collect raw data, conduct statistical analysis, write conclusions and distribute a variety of annual internal reports, including, but not limited to the Fact Book and Fast Facts;
- Develop, maintain and manipulate databases;
- Research, interpret, and generate complex statistical and analytical reports on faculty, staff, students and finance, leveraging the application of appropriate methodologies;
- Conduct research and analytical work to assist institutional strategic planning, budgeting and decision-making, including contributing to the College’s effort to improve student retention and success and helping achieve enrollment goals;
- Assist the College’s assessment of student learning initiatives by analyzing and reporting on existing data.
Work Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred- Master’s degree in Statistics or other quantitative Educational/Social Science research or related fields.
- Minimum of three years work experience.
- Proficiency with Social Science research methodologies and statistics.
- Experience using SPSS, or other computer/ statistical programming software.
- Microsoft Office proficiency, with intermediate/advanced knowledge of Excel.
- Experience managing databases and validating and checking accuracy of data elements.
- Ability to problem-solve, think strategically and communicate complex messages.
- Experience preparing and distributing complex written research based consultations.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
