Children’s Librarian, Edith M. Fox Branch Library, Arlington, MA

We’re in search of a new Fox Branch Librarian / Children’s Librarian who has great communication skills, passion for customer service excellence and a zest for self-directed projects.

This position is based at the Fox Branch Library five days per week, Tuesday to Saturday with some variation for summer hours. As a member of the library’s leadership team, the Fox Branch Librarian works under the general supervision of the Director of Libraries. He/she/they directs and supervises the activities of assigned staff including one part-time children’s librarian, one full-time library assistant and one part-time library assistant, pages and some volunteers. The Branch Librarian performs a wide variety of professional librarian work involved in the direction, operation and supervision of the branch library; in planning and scheduling branch library activities and programs; in assisting in the development and implementation of branch library procedures. The Branch Librarian is responsible for collection development, services for children and most library programs.

Arlington’s libraries are a system of two: the Robbins Library in the center of town, and the Fox Branch Library in East Arlington. “The Fox,” as it’s known, is a vibrant one-room library with a unique magnet children’s resale shop inside, The Little Fox Shop, run exclusively by Friends of Fox Library volunteers.
The Fox is located in the heart of East Arlington and enjoys strong neighborhood and community support; while the collection size has stayed roughly the same, circulation has doubled over the past decade due to all the young families moving into town. In addition, Fox fans are eager for library facility improvements, lending a lot of energy to this year’s Reimagining Our Libraries project.
