Visual Resources Curator, Williams College, Williamstown, MA

Williams is pleased to announce the position of Visual Resources Curator in the Art Department. This is a full-time, year-round, regular appointment reporting to the Art Department Chair. The Visual Resources Curator oversees the evaluation and implementation of digital teaching tools and projects in collaboration with art department faculty, Visual Resources Center staff and the Office of Instructional Technology. This position develops, maintains, and migrates a full range of digital, analog and historical art image collections.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee staff schedules and duties, managing workflow, setting priorities and support the development of special projects
  • Manage the budget for the Visual Resources Center
  • Oversee digital collection development through direct digital capture, vendor and museum acquisition
  • Manage the housing of historical image collections and their migration to digital format as appropriate
  • Monitor and maintain the Digital Asset Management system for archival storage, retrieval and delivery of images in a variety of formats
  • Participate in campus committee work as appropriate
  • Collaborate with members of the Office of Instructional Technology, Williams College Museum of Art, Sawyer Library and Williams College Archives and Special Collections for the evaluation, promotion and access for digital projects.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 2 – 5 years’ related experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and computer skills are essential
  • Familiarity with digital image technologies and experience with Digital Asset Management Systems
  • Supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff, processes and workflows
  • Knowledge of at least one European or Asian language preferred
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
