Workflow Analyst/Programmer, Yale University, New Haven, CT

Position Focus: The Workflow Analyst/Programmer works with business units to evaluate needs, identify process improvements, and implement technical solutions to drive organizational change. The position is embedded within the Yale University Library Access Services and Technical Services departments with an initial focus on improving monographic processing, resource sharing, and materials workflows. The Workflow Analyst/Programmer is responsible for modifying and enhancing existing solutions, as well as developing system integrations, batch processes, web development, data warehousing, report development, and in-house application development where appropriate. The position will require a successful candidate to wear many technical hats and create sustainable relationships to provide consultative support to business units. The successful candidate will be technically adept, a self-starter, passionate about technology, communicative, collaborative, and be able to analyze business processes in order to understand where technology may or may not provide solutions. The Workflow Analyst/Programmer is a member of the Yale University Library IT department, reporting to the Director of Enterprise Systems and Services.

Required Education, Skills and Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree. Three years of experience in analysis and programming of small to medium scale systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills, flexibility and a strong commitment to innovation, creativity, and excellence. Ability to maintain a focus on customer satisfaction, needs, and confidence in services provided. 
  • Proven skills working to assess client needs, synthesize a shared vision, and work collaboratively to help clients achieve goals. 
  • Demonstrated business systems analysis skills. 
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and facilitation skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Expertise in designing, developing, modifying, testing, and deploying applications.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience: Experience related to project management; programming (e.g. .Net/C#, Java), web application technologies, SQL and reporting packages, workflow documentation. Knowledge of library applications (e.g. ExLibris Voyager, OCLC subscription services, Atlas ILLiad and Ares) and associated web services. Knowledge of library operations related to acquisitions, cataloging, and fulfillment.
